Issue on computer ethic..

One recent issue on ICTs had drawn a lot of attentions from the society. In Petaling Jaya, a 25 year old student was charged in Session’s Court with attempting to create public unrest with his Facebook posting by writing threatening words on the controversy over the use of the word “Allah”.Mohamad, a second year student at the National Arts, Culture and Heritage Academy is charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998(Act 586) , faces a year’s jail or a RM50,000 fine or both if convicted. Many were shock as the posting which thought as a joke is taken seriously. The issue proves the lack of awareness among the society regarding to the ethics on ICTs.

What had been done by Mohamad is actually against one of the basic legal and ethical issue on ICTs which regards to the ethic issue on indecent and deceitful material. Internet is a truly mass medium which deals with a huge volume of information and data daily. It would be the centre of all sort of information worldwide. A single posting can be known by those who allow to access the information. However, not all of that information is decent or truth. Thus, this ethic is created to block free flow of information on the Internet.

Ethic issue on indecent and deceitful material covers the issue on indecent materials, deceitful material and spam. Mohamad’s case is under providing deceitful material. Deceitful materials are untrue remarks or statements made with the intent of deceiving or fooling others. Although some of these message may seem likes a little joke, but it may be offensive to some parties. As for indecent materials, it points mostly on the materials which are not suitable for children and young people. Due to the widely usage of ICTs in current era, children and young people can access indecent materials easily via Internet. In Hong Kong, Government regulates obscene and indecent information transmitted or published via Internet through the Control of obscene and indecent Articles Ordinance. In addition, a Code of Practice was introduced in October 1997. Meanwhile, spam is unwanted junk e-mail or posting by people who mostly wanted to advertise their product or services. These informations are transmitted like a chain letter.

Apart from the mentioned ethical issue, there are still various ethical issue which may not be notice by the ICTs user. Other ethical issues mostly involve the issue on the intellectual property right, data privacy, and unauthorized access. Intellectual property Right(IPRs) refers to the right which create had for their own inventions, writing and works. Data privacy is the always relates to ones right to set own personal information or any sensitive data as private and protected from the access of other unauthorized party. For unauthorized access, one shall not access any information without the permission of the owner unless the data is set for free view, download or modify. Else, the action will be taken as breaking into one’s computer network and trespassing one’s information.

In conclusion, awareness and knowledge on the basic legal and ethical issue on ICTs is important to use the ICTs responsibly. Most users are no longer new to the world of Internet, thus it would be the time for the users to know the right way accessing the Internet .

Why am I force to create my own blog??

Today,my ethic class had discussed on the topic "Copyright"..
It was an interesting topic as I can know each law was actually established due to some incident happenned in the past..
It was then our( me and my coursemate) lecturer asked us ,what we know about watermark..
Silence..
Then, our lecturer asked again whether any of us has a blog..
Hence, only one among 60 of us raise his hand up..
Thus, we were all asked to create a blog..
